In 1942, Gavriil Sobinov, a Siberian hunter, learns that his son Semyon has gone missing in action. Gavriil volunteers for the front, hoping to find his son alive. Once on the front lines, he takes command of a sniper unit, and now he must teach young soldiers how to fight.
