Founded in 2020, Gandhara Independent Film Festival (GIFF) is Pakistan’s first and major digital film festival. The festival focuses on showcasing the best of independent films from Pakistan and around the world and it has successfully completed two digital and two hybrid editions. Since its inception, GIFF has been attracting the finest independent filmmakers and film lovers, not just from Pakistan but from across the world.

The idea of GIFF emerged through inspiration from the dedication of upcoming filmmakers, who through their creativity, demonstrate a wide range of ideas and possibilities. We as a film festival truly respect and want to showcase their stories to the audience around the globe by giving them a credible platform while creating a film festival structure in the country.

We take pride in ourselves for building a beautiful community of filmmakers and creatives who have given us the honour of sharing their valuable projects on our platform.

GIFF 2022 and 2023 was also held as a hybrid version (in-person), which extended the reach and enabled many new local viewers to participate in the festival physically. We are excited to return next year to celebrate a new slate of essential cinematic offerings from around the globe.

The 5th edition of Gandhara Independent Film Festival (in-person) will be held in Karachi in 2024 along with the online edition as well. Venue & dates will be announced soon, so stay tuned for further updates.

Films from every region will be accepted via FilmFreeWay. Submission dates will be announced soon.
